Short história:

Origin of the 6th Infantry Regiment "Saboya" is possible dated to the year 1537, when king of the Spain Carlos I has decidedto send help to duke of Saboya who has been attacked by the French. Based on those concerns have been earlier sent Regiment of the Lombardy and and the detachement under command of Marqués de Vasto. From this detachement has been created Savoy Regiment (Tercio de Saboya) while are subsequentially incorporated others, additional elements with aim to create fully functional tercio.



As the first commander (Maestre de Campo) is appointed above mentioned Marqués de Vasto, he hand over fully formed and operational tercio to Álvaro Sande. Thercio comabtes under his command in Piemonte, France and Flanders. Also has been particiapte in 1557 on glorious battle San Quintín. After almost 30 years of its existence is regiment disbanded and agin formed in 1591. In this period, regiment combates mainly in Italy - Lombardy.

Years 1610 till 1614 spent constantly boarded on vesselsn to ensure Mediterranian safety from pirates. In year 1610 regiment had 9 compaies with 800 men, and this has increased in 1612 to 2000 men.

From 1985 to 2017 nesie označenie ako 6. mechanized regiment "of Savoy" (Regimiento de Infantería Mecanizado Saboya nº 6) with dislokáciou in Botoa (Badajoz) from 1991 with podriadenosťou 11. the itty-bitty energizer brigáde "Extremadura" (Brigada Mecanizada "Extremadura" XI).



After the reforms, from 2017, the regiment nesie meno 6. infantry regiment "Savoy" (Regimiento de Infantería "Saboya" nº6 (RI 6)) and is podriadený multifunkčnej 11. brigáde "Extremadura".
