III. section of a Tank regiment 17 originated in Tunisia by renaming the Heavy tank section 501, of which 1., 2. and 3. the company have been renumbered to 7. to 9. company. Tank regiment 17, however, was never formed, existed only on paper, and the section under that (wrong) name was included in the state of Panzer regiment 7 10. panzer division.
