A JAS-39C Gripen (9236) from the 211th Tactical Squadron lands at 21st Tactical Air Base after completing a morning COMAO mission, Exercise Lion Effort 2015, May 21, 2015. On May 12, 21st Tactical Air Force Base in Čáslav began the largest air exercise over the Czech Republic held in 2015, called Lion Effort 2015. It included joint training of states whose armies have any version of the JAS-39 Gripen (known by the acronym GUG, Gripen Users Group).

The numbers of aircraft of each account holder:
CR:
- 6x JAS-39C/JAS-39D Gripen
- 8x L-159A ALCA
- 1x Mi-171Š
- 2x Mi-24V
- 1x C-295M
- 1x L-410

Sweden:
- 11x JAS-39C/JAS-39D Gripen

Hungary:
- 5 x JAS-39 EBS HU C/JAS-39 EBS HU D (one JAS-39 EBS HU D was destroyed in accident on May 19, 2015 at the 21st zTL)

Poland:
- 2x F-16C Fighting Falcon

Germany:
- 2x-4x Eurofighter

NATO:
- 1x E-3A Sentry

The objective of the exercise was to plan and execute air operations against ground and air targets with a larger number of aircraft and 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2 aircraft air combat. As many as 28 pieces of air equipment were deployed simultaneously during the flight event. The Lion Effort 2015 exercise program was divided into two main blocks. In the morning, missions were flown under a complex scenario with coordination of all trainers (called Composite Air Operations - COMAO), followed by missions in the afternoon (called Shadow Wave), which focused on manoeuvre air combat and direct air support tasks. Nearly three dozen aircraft had the opportunity to practice air combat tactics together, as well as techniques and procedures for cooperation. Units of 25th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment from Strakonice simulated the so-called "Base Defence Zone", i.e. the defence of the airfield against enemy aircraft, with the 2K12 Kub anti-aircraft missile system (2x 1S91 SURN CZ, 4x 2P25M2).

As of May 20, 2015, a total of 231 sorties and 292 flight hours were flown during Lion Effort 2015. The exercise officially ended on 24.5.2015.
