After the initial failure was remodeled XF3B-1 as the Model 77 again [3. February 1928, and in this form in the tests, the navy succeeded - so much so, that followed the order on the highest number of navy objenávaný, 73 machines. The first machine was handed over to 15. August, the last 25. November, 1928, from the rebuilt prototype differed rudder to the new shape and due to the new aircraft carrier incoming to the service, it was decided to omit the possibility to use floats. The first machines went to the fighter squadron VF-2B USS Langley, later, also to the VF-3B Lexington and to the bomber squadron VB-2B on the Saratoga and VB-1B on the Lexington. One machine got to the marine corps. In the course of the services, the navy has introduced some adjustments, the engine got a ring Townend, part of machines have faired landing gear, changed the exhausts. As the on-board tank (and dive bombers, although they could carry only a few 25lb bomb), served F3B-1 until the year 1932, after the majority was moved to druholiniové service, as a staff and command aircraft for multi-role squadrons (e.g. VJ-5), etc., On the Saratoga served F3B-1, together with its predecessor F2B-1, which had paradoxically little advantage in speed, F3B but were among the pilots increasingly popular due to the better manoeuvrability and robustness of the design. The successor they have become the Boeing series F4B.
