Combat report of Lieutenant Commander Harold E. Comstock, 17 August 1943 (1st confirmed kill)
Cmdr. Harold E. Comstock a. combat b. 17 August 1943 c. 63rd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group d. 16:25 e. near Ans, Belgium f. Clear with excellent visibility g. two Me 109F h. One Me 109 destroyed i.
I flew Postgate Blue 3 as a retreat support for the B-17 from Eupon. We were at 26,000 feet, turning left to the right of the bombers, two Me 109F's made a left descending turn in front of the Postgate Blue squadron. As they flew past us, Blue 4 and I stuck to their tails. During the 50 to 60 degree descent, I fired on the first Me 109, but I overshot. Then I set the 2/4 ring on the scope and saw hits on his left wing. When I broke away, half of his left wing flew off.(1) My number, Blue 4, was chasing the second Me 109, so I went into a very steep climb and turned left as the Me 109 continued to descend. My number was still flying on my right when I finished the climb.
I credit myself with one Me 109 destroyed.

Combat report of Lieutenant Commander Harold E. Comstock, 26 November 1943 (3rd confirmed kill)
Cmdr. Harold E. Comstock a. combat b. 26 November 1943 c. 63rd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group d. 12:10 and 12:20 e. Friesoythe f. Cloud cover 3/10, visibility good g. two Me 110 - one Fw 190 h. 1 destroyed Me 110-1 damaged Me 110-1 damaged Fw 190 i.
I flew as No 3 in the Blue Squadron Postgate (Capt Mahurin, Lt Truluck, Comstock and Petty). When we joined the forts, Capt. Mahurin, Blue 1, was kesing the Me 110 formation, which was behind, to the left and below the formation, but he was approaching too fast. Lt. Truluck, Blue Two, slowed down enough to fire a short burst that hit the left flank of the NL. Truluck broke off, I flew in and fired a short burst that hit him in the left wing. Lt. Petty, Blue 4, flew at me and fired another short burst that visibly hit him in the right wing. I credit the damaged Me 110.
While Lt. Petty was firing, I went after another Me 110 and sent a 2/3 second burst from 300-500 yards. I noticed hits on the fuselage and wings. I couldn't see the result of my hits, but Blue 2 and 4 watched as he caught fire. I credit the destroyed Me 110 (available for review in Lt. Truluck and Petty's reports).
As I was firing on the second Me 110, I saw another P-47 firing on the Me 110 to my right. The pilot jumped out and opened his chute at 18 or 20 thousand feet. This P-47 was piloted by Capt. Mahurin.
At that moment, an Fw 190 was coming in slightly from below at 10 o'clock. So I made a slight turn to the left and lightly sprayed him to scare him off. I saw a few flashes on his wings, but he jerked to the right and started to approach another P-47 (piloted probably by Col. Schilling) when Lt. Truluck and fired. The shots framed the entire NL and after it dropped several thousand feet, it burst into flames violently. I attribute the damage to this Fw 190.
I attribute 1 damaged Me 110, 1 destroyed Me 110 and 1 damaged Fw 190.

Combat report of Major Harold E. Comstock, 23 December 1944 (4th and 5th confirmed kills)
Major Harold E. Comstock a. combat b. 23 December 1944 c. 63rd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group d. 11:45-12:15 e. SW of Bonn f. CAVU (unrestricted visibility) g. Fw 190 h. two destroyed Fw 190s; two damaged Fw 190s i.
I was leading a Day Squadron with a squadron consisting of myself, Flight Sgt. Hughes, Lt. Scherz and Clark. Nuthouse reported the bandits NW of Koblenz. We found them immediately. There were over 60 Fw 190s circling and climbing to the left. We arrived at 25,000 feet with the sun at 4 o'clock. I made one pass through the middle of the formation of 190s and damaged one left wing I pulled in, aimed right at the circle and and one Fw 190 left the circle and fired at me. We both started firing 1,000 yards apart. His hits were coming from underneath me and when I hit his engine, his fire stopped. He turned down and to the left. When I turned around in pursuit of him, I noticed his engine was running very slowly and when I got behind him, he dropped his cover and jumped. The fw went into a slight downhill turn.(1)
I then pulled in and ocyted under another 190 that didn't see me. I stayed under it until it ended the odval and then lifted right behind it. I opened fire at 200 yards and saw hits all along her right side. I approached to 100 yards and there were more hits on the right side, including flying debris.(2) That's when I spotted another Fw 190 overhead, so I leveled off behind it and fired from 500 yards, and saw a couple of hits before I ran out of ammo.
I credit myself with two (2) Fw 190s destroyed and two (2) Fw 190s damaged.
