Miles M.2F Hawk Major

In 1934, FG Miles reworked his Hawk for the installation of a new engine, de Havilland Gipsy Major (however, the prototype used a weaker Gipsy III engine). 16 machines were produced, which differed from Hawk by a metal engine bed (M.2 had a wooden bed) and a covered chassis in the form of characteristic "pants". This variant was designated Miles M.2F Hawk Major. As in the case of the previous main version, several one- or two-piece variants followed, differing, for example, in the three-seater cab. Hawk Majors were export-successful, eight of which ended up in India, Australia, Spain and New Zealand, for example. Production of this version ended in May 1935, when it was replaced by version M.2H, differing in the flaps on the wings. Two Hawk Major machines were taken over during the RAF War, where they served as training and connecting. Another M.2F has been used by Communications Flight, Levant in the Middle East since 1942, one was also taken over by RNZAF.
