The first large production version of the StuG III assault gun.

Differences from the previous version (StuG III Ausf.A):
The platform was a medium tank chassis Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.H (7./Z.W.). To distinguish the Ausf.B version from the Ausf.A (both series), it helps that on this chassis the front support pulley was moved closer to the drive wheel, so there was a greater distance between the first and second pulleys than between the second and third tension pulleys.
The first vehicles still had the older drive wheels with circular perforations (8 relief holes), but they were adapted for the use of wider tracks (400 mm as opposed to 380 mm for the Ausf.A version). Later machines already had new drive wheels with six relief holes, which were standard until the Ausf.G version (assembled until 11/1943 by Miag and 3/1944 by Alkett).
The large boxes located on the fenders at the rear were eliminated (Müller/Zimmermann - however, there are photos of the machines with the boxes as well).
Among the distinctive differences of the StuG Ausf.B version from the StuG III Ausf.A (1st serie) are the hatches over the gun's optical sight. On this version, there was a wider hatch with two hinges closer to the sight aperture and a narrower hatch with one hinge behind it. For the StuG III Ausf.A (1st serie) version it was the other way around.
The vehicles carried a pair of 5 meter long tow cables on the engine cowling.
The fogging device carried in the rear of the hull received armoured protection.

Interesting machine in full yellow paint and with schurzens. The photo probably shows a training machine, according to the source it is from Jüterbog.
