Tatra 116 is the designation of the project of a double-axle truck with a load capacity of 6000 kg developed by Tatra after 1948. The development was due to criticism aimed at the "unnecessary" complexity, weight and production requirements of the existing Tatra truck chassis concept, consisting of a carrier tube with swing-axle half-axles. The trucks developed (two-axle T-116, T-117 and T-120 and three-axle T-118, T-119 and T-122) were therefore designed with a rectangular frame and rigid axles.
The T-116 was powered by an air-cooled flat-six cylinder engine (boxer type, bore x stroke 120 x 150 mm) with a power output of 94,2 kW (2000-2200 rpm), OHV timing and a displacement of 10,179 litres.
A total of 3 prototypes were to be produced. Further development of the type series was stopped around 1952 after comparative tests with the Tatra 128 and ZiS-151, which fully demonstrated the advantages of the original Tatra design.
