OT-90
The OT-90 tracked armoured personnel carrier was developed in the early 1990s by converting from the BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicle, whose turret was replaced by a modified turret assembly from the BTR-60PB, which was used on OT-64A SKOT transports in Czechoslovakia.
This conversion was initiated by the conclusion of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe in Paris on 19 November 1990 and the Agreement on Maximum Levels of Conventional Arms and Equipment, which was signed in Budapest on 3 November 1990. Within the limits set by these treaties, the Czechoslovak army could have a maximum of 2050 armoured combat vehicles in its armament, i.e. armoured personnel carriers (vehicles designed to transport infantry squads and equipped with weapons of less than 20 mm calibre) and infantry fighting vehicles (vehicles equipped with a cannon of at least 20 mm calibre and an anti-tank guided missile launcher). At the end of the 1980s, the CSLA had more than 2,000 BVP-1 and BVP-2, for which, however, these conventions set a limit of 1,430 units. In order to fulfil the treaties, the infantry fighting vehicles BVP-1 were converted into armoured personnel carriers. This was also to replace the old fleet of armoured personnel carriers (OT-62 and OT-64), which were already obsolete and had insufficient spare parts.
In a short period of time, five variants were proposed with and without armament (two functional designs were built), which had to meet the requirements of irreversibility of changes and relatively simple and fast rebuildability. Due to very limited technical, time and capacity reasons, a variant using a turret from the OT-64A type was implemented. In this way, the armoured personnel carriers of the Czechoslovak army were "rejuvenated" by 10 to 15 years. At the same time, there was a partial unification with the infantry fighting vehicles already in service. The conversion to the OT-90 did save several hundred BVP-1 vehicles from being scrapped, but at the cost of the "new" armoured personnel carrier having a large number of shortcomings. Due to the emergency nature of the conversion, which was carried out by VOP 026 personnel often directly with combat units, the quality of craftsmanship of the OT-90 transports was in many cases very poor. This, coupled with the reduced firepower of the original infantry fighting vehicle, led to the OT-90 gaining the derisive nickname "Havel's Tiger".
Between 1990 and 1991, a total of 620 BVP-1 were modified to OT-90 standard. After the breakup of the federation, 413 of them were taken over by the Army. In 2008, probably three OT-90s were delivered to the Central African Republic from Slovakia.
Already in the early days of OT-90 operation in the services, a number of their shortcomings came to light, which were addressed in the OT-90M1 and OT-90M2 upgrades. A number of specialized superstructures were further derived from the basic OT-90 design: VP-90 - Command Post DP-90 - artillery observation post MU-90 - Mine Stacker OZ-90 - medical recovery vehicle DTP-90/55 - technical assistance workshop DTP-90/72 - technical assistance workshop ZV-90 - resource vehicle

Proto byly nadpočetné BVP-1 urychleně přestavěny sejmutím věže a její náhradou věžičkou z OT-64. Bohužel se vyznačovaly nízkou tuhostí navařeného oběžného věnce a nekvalitním provedením přestavby (technologie svařování hliníkové slitiny skříně). To vedlo k častému zkřížení věnce a nepohyblivosti věže. Existují OT-90M1, M2 a M3.

Písmená U,UP a P znamenajú presne čo?
