II. group of JG 2 was formed in a 15. December 1939 in Zerbstu, consisted of 4., 5. and 6. the squadron was armed with aircraft Messerschmitt Bf 109 E. The basis of the pilot cadre to provide Even./JG 2 and I./JG 3. The group initially fell under the Air county IV. After reaching operational capability, take over the protection of the central German industrial area. From march 1940 operated from a north German Nordholzu and protect the area of Hamburg and the German bay. At the same time passed into the subordination of the JG 2. From 7. 12. April byůla group stationed in Neumünsteru where she was supposed to promote the progress of the operation WESERÜBUNG. Since Denmark very quickly surrendered, the group wasn't even deployed and came back to Nordholzu.

11. may 1940 the group moved to the Hamminkeln u Weselat the, where she went to the subordination of the IV. the air corps and to provide fighter escort of the bombers. 14. may moved to the belgian Peeru, where it was subordinated to JG 26. After three days she moved to the Attenrode and 25. may followed the move to Grandglise, from which she did years ago on the Dunkirk and Calais. At the beginning of June in preparation for the operation PAUL moved first to the Mannessecourt, where flew to the area around Épernay, and then to the Monceau-le-Waast in Laonu, where she went to the subordination of JG 2 and support procedure 6. and 9. army. At the end of June the group moved to Beaumont-le-Roger, where she did years ago along the French coast and over the Channel. Since August she participated in operations in the framework of the battle of Britain. To the end of the month was redislokována to Mardycku, from which was flying over the south east of England. At the end of September she returned to Beaumont-le-Roger. Towards the end of the month of October the group participated in ensuring the protection of Hitler's command train in my way to a meeting with Frank, and was therefore in the short term located in Mont-de-Marsan. The turn of the year the group spent in Beaumont-le-Roger. Until the end of march 1941 she moved to Brest, where she participated in the protection of this important port. Already in April, but moved back to Beaumont-le-Roger, where rearm on machine Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-2, and then to Abbeville-Drucat, because with the departure of troops to the East had to JG 2 covering the greater space. In December 1941, the group returned to Brest. In early February 1942 the group moved first to the bretaňskégo St. Brieuc and then to the Caen-Carpiquet. In January 1943 the group moved from Bizerty to Kairouanu, however, already in march was withdrawn back to the French Beaumont-le-Roger. Here he has shaped the 12. squadron, which was intended for the II. the group but not yet fall directly under the JG 2 and unlike the other squadrons were armed with machine Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-3 and G-4. In April arrived in Beaumont-le-Roger and 6. squadron, and so here, gathered all of the components of the group - staff, 4., 5., 6. and 12. squadron, which was formally II. the group subordinated to the to in July. In April, the group got rid of the focke-wulfů and has been completely re-equipped with the aircraft Messerschmitt Bf 109 G and it was mid may and again deployed to defend the airspace in northern France, taking 4. squadron moved to Poix and June in Tricqueville. At the end of June, then to Poix moved staff groups and 5. squadron. At the beginning of August 1943, the entire group, up to 12. squadron, which was located in moved in Évreux, in Vitry-en-Artois. Now, therefore, the group consisted of crew, 5., 6., 7. and 8. squadron. After the Allies invaded in Normandy, was deployed to defend, however, already in August 1944 she was moved to the St. Trond. Right at the beginning of September, the group moved to Frankfurt-Eschborn and at the end of the same month to Niddy. In January 1945, the group participated in operation BODENPLATTE, and was aimed at the airport in Sint-Truiden.
