1945 - 1946
On the first day of the new year, the squadron recorded one of its best results in aerial combat. Returning from an early morning bombardment of enemy positions, the pilots were alerted to German fighters attacking their base (Operation Bodenplatte). Although they were already low on fuel, they attacked without hesitation and scored six certain and one probable kills and damaged four other enemy machines, losing one pilot shot down. Until the end of the war, its pilots then undertook mostly attacks on ground targets, and the squadron ended its war journey on German territory. After the Armistice was declared, it became part of the British occupation forces in Germany until October 1946 and was disbanded shortly after it returned to the British Isles.
