MRSAM (Medium Range Surface to Air Missiles)
Ground-based version of the medium-range anti-aircraft missile complex Barak 8. The primary difference is the radar, which uses a single rotatable antenna. Other features include a battle management, command, control, communications and reconnaissance centre (BMC4I) and several launchers, each carrying 8 missiles in interchangeable containers. The ground version is used by the Indian Air Force, Indian Ground Forces and Azerbaijan. The land-based version is also under tender (2018) for a new medium-range system for the IAF.
Missile: - weight - 275 kg - length - 4500 mm - span - 0.75 m - propulsion - two-stage solid rocket engine - speed - 680 m/s - guidance - command, radar. In the last phase of flight on-board active radar - long range - 70 km - altitude range - 16000 m
The Israeli company IAI contributed 90% and the Indian company DRDO 10% to the development of MRSAM. India planned to arm 2 anti-aircraft missile regiments (36 firing units) with MRSAM systems. The launchers and command post were made by India, while the remaining elements, including the missiles, were manufactured in Israel. The requirement of the Indian Armed Forces was for 2,000 BARAK LR missiles with an option for additional units depending on the need for replenishment and resupply in the future. The original 2009 contract envisaged completion of development around 2015 and the first 18 fire units were scheduled to be delivered by October 2016. The firing unit consists of a trio of launchers (24 missiles in total ready for use), a 3D radar and a command post.
[In July 2018, IAI introduced its own version of the system under the designation BARAK MX - a modular system into which BARAK missiles of different ranges (35, 70, 150 km) and 3D ELM radars can be integrated according to customer requirements. Unlike the Indian MRSAM, where the launcher is integrated on a truck chassis, the BARAK MX launcher is of the container type.
