The ship took part in the Spanish-American War. First in the Caribbean (fight with the squadron Admiral Cervera near Santiago de Cuba), where she arrived from the Pacific on a journey around South America, which lasted 2 months. This journey was one of the main arguments for the construction of the Panama Canal. She later returned to the Pacific and fought in the Philippines. She spent the rest of her active duty in the Pacific.
