History: The aircraft was built for Colombia, which in the early 1930s was looking for a suitable bomber for its air force. However, none of the types offered were suitable, being either obsolete, expensive or still under development. A small company, Bellanca, offered them a single-engine aircraft based on the P-300 transport with an interestingly designed lower wing. This was a wing that folded upwards at the undercarriage and turned into a nose strut. This solution ensured a short take-off and landing. The Colombians agreed, but wanted a twin-engined aircraft with floats and ordered 4 of them in 1934. The development then proceeded rapidly, it was an aircraft with a fuselage that was welded from steel tubes with canvas covering, the upper wing was wooden, the lower wing had a skeleton of tubes and was covered with duralumin. The crew consisted of four men.
The prototype Model 77-140 flew in December 1934, still equipped with fixed-wheel landing gear. The trials went well and the remaining three aircraft, designated Model 77-320, were produced, already equipped with the Edo floats that the first prototype had received.
The bombers were inducted into the Colombian Air Force in 1935, one crashed in the late 1930s, and the others retired in 1942.
