Such a vague, indistinct title is an introduction to a topic with considerable geographical spread - from the Arab deserts, oil-soaked, to the tiny republic of Nauru in the Pacific, once a German colony, then under Australian rule, now enjoying a sovereign existence: until recently a record-rich island with the highest per capita income in the world, because it was hardened by birds.
Saudi Arabia's interpretation of Islam, conservative and fundamentalist, may in the future speak quite prominently of the way Muslims will mostly live and practice their faith. The new generation does not rebel against the strict rules of religion at home, and Saudi money opens the door to the world for pious and conservative Islam.
The West still needs oil. Therefore, not only will his dependence on totalitarian regimes owning the remnants of this strategic raw material increase, but also pressure to redefine his rhetoric. Otherwise, the West will be completely discredited. An exception can only be a situation if he manages to find a relevant alternative to oil in the foreseeable future.
