Oleksii Danilov (Олексій Danілов), secretary of the National Security Council, proposed 12 steps to deoccupy Crimea, which include releasing imprisoned Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians, punishing gauleiter and collaborators, as well as dismantling the Crimean Bridge and renaming Sevastopol Akhtiar (Ахтіар, Tatar: Акъяр, once a separate municipality now part of the city).

Top Ukrainian athlete, four-time world champion, falls

He went to war on the very first day of the large-scale Russian invasion. He was survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter. The war in Ukraine has claimed another victim among Ukrainian athletes.


As reported by insidethegames.biz, citing the mayor of the western Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Marcinkiv, kickboxer and four-time world champion Vitaliy Merinov died in hospital.


He succumbed to injuries sustained in the fight against the Russian invaders.


Merinov, who was also active in municipal politics in Ivano-Frankivsk, went to war on the first day of the large-scale Russian invasion.


"During one of the battles, he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. Merinov recovered and returned to the front. He defended Ukraine until his last breath," Marcinkiv noted. He added that Merinov was survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter.


Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych, who became famous during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics with the banner "No to war in Ukraine!" and called for a complete ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes on the international stage, was among those who paid tribute to Merinov. "Hail to the hero," he wrote on Twitter.


Ukraine this year decided to boycott Olympic qualifying events at which Russian athletes will compete to take part in next year's Games in Paris.


This came after International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach outlined new guidelines on Tuesday that would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete with neutral status, effectively paving the way for their participation.
