The situation of bachmut defenders is getting worse and worse. However, rumors of a retreat are premature. Ukrainian soldiers continue to control the city center. I even have information that several positions across the river are still controlled by Ukrainians.
Yesterday, the Russians destroyed a bridge in the village of Khromove, which was the road to the town. I am refuting the rumors - it was not blown up by Ukrainians. Two sources have confirmed this. I will quote one of them:
"The bridge was fired at from a distance. They hit mines that were ready underneath it in case it was to be blown up quickly. That's standard procedure." Blowing up the bridge worsens Bakhmut's supply options, but the Ukrainians can continue to use the dirt roads they were already using. Now the important thing: that can change at any time.
The situation is so complex that the Ukrainians may, for example, decide to withdraw troops from Bakhmut immediately or tonight. At the moment, however, Ukrainian soldiers are still in the town and defending it.
